If You Want to Volunteer

Point Roberts has always been on the lookout for the highest quality responders we can attract.  We firmly believe in the fact that we develop some of the best and most caring responders in Whatcom County through a competitive and selective process. Through International partnerships, we attract many interested candidates from Canada due to our success in helping them maintain their professional disciplines through a proactive educational approach and be successful in their career firefighting goals. Our volunteers serve in all levels of medical responders including Paramedic and fire suppression and education roles. Some of our members also hold IFSAC (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress) and Pro Board sanctioned certification as Fire Officers, Fire Instructors, Fire Life Safety Educators, Fire Inspectors and more.  We offer injury coverage to all members and a Pension through the Board of Volunteer Firefighters for those who qualify. A Volunteer Stipend Plan is also offered to all members for nominal reimbursement for training time, incidents, and duty rotation.

The District offers some of the highest levels of medical and fire training and certification available. We have enjoyed a highly successful program, by holding ourselves to high standards in participation, training and conduct. From this, every member realizes the value of being a contributing part of the team, understanding the importance of duty and community.

We conduct our volunteer hiring processes starting in March and August of every year.  Our goal is to maintain a roster of over 30 active volunteers.

Support members are hired (as needed) and will be trained in fire and EMS duties that will aid firefighters and medical providers during incidents. They will not be expected to go interior on structures.
