Fire / EMS

Point Roberts averages two structure fires a year. We train aggressively for these types of incidents through donated homes and the Fire Training Facility located on Britton Loop in Bellingham. These opportunities provide our personnel with the means to practice fire ground evolutions including command and control, search and rescue, ventilation, forcible entry and live fire evolutions.

For many years, the fire service across the nation has served as the primary provider of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in a majority of communities. In Point Roberts, about 60 percent of our calls are for medical aid. All firefighters in the District are certified as First Aid/CPR, First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) or Paramedics (EMT-P). Using firefighters cross-trained to provide basic life support as well as advanced life saving care increases efficiency and adds value for the citizens in our community.

EMS is a critical function of the Point Roberts Fire Department (WCFD5).  Department personnel are the first responders to medical emergencies. To respond to emergency incidents, the District has two engines, two ambulances and one battalion. In addition, the District also has an air van and two utility vehicles.  Depending on Volunteer availability, a typical initial response for emergency calls is 3-5 personnel. All frontline apparatus have cardiac defibrillation capability through the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Additionally, if a Paramedic is not currently available in the District, an ALS transport unit will be requested from Airlift Northwest, Whatcom Medic One or the Ferndale Fire Department (WCFD7) if care warrants advanced medications or procedures.

Our commitment is that you receive great service from our staff of emergency responders regardless of your need, whenever we are called to service.
